Amazon unveils new AI models Nova

During its conference (AWS re:Invent), Amazon announced the launch of a new series of new AI models called Nova, which will be available within the artificial intelligence platform Bedrock via Amazon cloud services.

The current series includes three models that Amazon describes as "comprehension models," including the Nova Micro model, a text model that is "optimized in terms of speed and cost", the Nova Lite multimedia model, which is characterized by being "low-cost" and capable of manipulating text, images and videos to convert them into text, and the Nova Pro model, which is a "high-efficiency" multimedia model. The company is developing an additional model called Nova Premier, which Amazon describes as the "most efficient model in handling complex tasks," and Amazon expects to make this model available by early 2025.

In addition to comprehension models, the company has announced custom content creation models, including the Nova Canvas image generation model and the Nova Reel video generation model, which comes with features such as watermarking to ensure "responsible use of artificial intelligence."

Amazon is also expected to roll out a voice-to-voice model, as well as a fully multimedia model, later in 2025. Amazon confirmed that the new Nova series of artificial intelligence models is able to understand and create content in more than 200 languages, including Arabic, in addition to other languages such as English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and others. These capabilities make NOVA models suitable for a wide range of global applications that require accurate and advanced language processing.

In parallel with the unveiling of its new models, the company announced during its conference the construction of the largest infrastructure dedicated to artificial intelligence computing, using its Trainium 2 chips, in partnership with Anthropics, in which Amazon has invested $ 8 billion so far. Upon completion, the company said, the project will become "the world's largest AI computing cluster."

Amazon, like many competitors, seeks to accelerate the launch of artificial intelligence products and services, as the company is characterized by its ability to take advantage of the major infrastructure of AWS cloud services, which gives it a competitive advantage, especially with many large companies confident in its services.

In a remarkable development, a senior Apple executive appeared during the conference to talk about his company's reliance on custom artificial intelligence chips from Amazon. The company is continuing to work on a new AI-powered version of the voice assistant Alexa, but its launch scheduled for this fall has been postponed until next year.
