The user who uses Apple's Airtag tracking device will be able to quickly find his bag at global airports, as the American company announced the launch of a new function to facilitate this through a link to the application "Find My".
The new function aims to make it easier to find passengers' bags; the location of the bags can be shared with other parties via a link, so that the user can find the lost bags.
Apple announced that it shares this job with more than 15 airlines around the world such as Lufthansa, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Previously, the problem was that the user of the tracking device could locate the lost bag, but the location forwarding process was very cumbersome, which has now changed with the new function, which makes this process easier.
The new function "Share Item Location" allows the possibility of creating a link that can be sent to other parties, and the recipient of this link can know the location of the bag on an interactive map, and once the bag is found, this link is disabled, and the validity of the link automatically expires after 7 days. The new functionality is available in beta version of iOS 18.2 and is expected to launch soon as part of the next OS update.
It should be noted that there are a lot of companies currently manufacturing small tracking devices such as Apple, Samsung, Tile, Chipolo, eufy Security and Pebblebee, and all of these devices work in an identical manner via Bluetooth technology, where the tracking devices establish a wireless connection with a neighboring smartphone compatible with their operating system, so the user gets an approximate location of the lost bag.
OS compatibility is often a problem with trackers because trackers can only be identified by smartphones with specific apps or permissions. Apple's Airtag trackers are only recognizable by an iPhone smartphone or iPad, yet they are set up so that effective trackers are recognized, loaded in the Find My app and notified to the user. The larger the network of potential devices that receive the Airtag tracker signal, the better the network works.
