Finnish telecommunications company Nokia has made a major breakthrough in voice communications technology, announcing the world's first phone call using three-dimensional voice, according to dpa news agency. According to the company, this new technology provides an instant experience for the user, as he can hear everything clearly during the call as if he were with the other person.
The technology provides a three-dimensional audio experience for users, compared to the monophonic phone call experience currently offered by smartphones, where the voice is compressed into a single channel.

Nokia President Pekka Lundmark made the first immersive call to Stefan Lindström, Finland's ambassador for digital transformation and new technologies, using the 3GPI VAS codec over the 5G network. "We have reviewed the future of voice calls," Lundmark commented. "This groundbreaking voice technology takes you into the caller environment, creating a spatial listening experience and significantly enhanced for voice and video calls, providing significant benefits for industrial and commercial applications."

The Finnish-based company added that the technology has not yet been implemented in mobile networks. Lindstrom said the three-dimensional audio experience is exciting and makes interaction more realistic, bringing many new advantages to personal and professional communication.

Currently, AVAS Codec technology is being used in apps such as Netflix, Apple Music and Disney Plus to provide a realistic audio experience for users, according to The Verge.
